I recently got to celebrate Jessica's pregnancy with a studio maternity session in Kelowna! We used Perspective Event Design & Decor's studio space, as they have a new studio rental open to photographers and we had so much fun. I love how open to ideas Jessica was! We managed to get through a lot, and made sure there was plenty of time for mama to rest in between setups. A client's comfortability —and safety— are of the utmost importance during a session, so I always make sure we have more time planned than needed to allow for those much deserved breaks and to not feel rushed. It was lovely to chat over coffee during a set change and learn more about the journey she's been through in order to get to where she is today.
You see, this beautiful mama didn't have the easiest pregnancy. Not only did she have every pregnancy symptom you could ever imagine once pregnant, there was also the struggle to conceive and they had to turn to in-vitro fertilization (IVF). 1 in 6 Canadians actually experience difficulties with infertility, and IVF is one route some have to turn to. After two weeks pregnant, they got confirmation it did take, and they'd be having a little boy. I was in touch with Jessica from the very beginning and it was beautifully different learning they already knew what they'd be having—I'm so used to most people waiting until around 15 weeks!
I'm so thrilled we were able to bring her vision to life. And I hope when she looks back on these photos, she'll see an incredibly strong woman who's worked hard to create the life she dreamed of. I'm happy to report mom and baby are healthy and can't wait to share photos from their in home lifestyle newborn session!
