What started as a beautiful lightning storm, continues with thousands of hectares burned. The storm hit central Okanagan on the evening of July 17. A few spots of smoke were noticed following the strikes. The next morning the smoke was more visible, but still not too bad. 13 fires had started the previous night between West Kelowna and Penticton alone, so the crews were busy. By nightfall, July 18, the hills south of Peachland and across the lake were a glowing blaze and some evacuation orders went into place. Here are my photos of the fires, mainly the Good Creek Fire (Okanagan Mountain Park), the Mount Eneas Fire, and the Peachland Creek Fire. Below is a clip from the interview I did for CBC's The National after they saw my album on Facebook. From what I had seen, photos were used on 4 different TV news broadcasts and a handful of news articles online.
Note: I will continue to add photos as the fires go on as they picked up again after posting this.
