Have you ever thought of physio as fun? Even though it's a form of self care, I always felt it to be a chore–until I met with Kids Physio Group. They're known for making physio fun for kids! They believe a playful, fun, engaging and open environment are what kids need to be motivated through their rehabilitation journey. Kids Physio Group creates thoughtful treatment plans to provide the care needed for all kids to reach their maximum physical potential and recover from their injury. Whether it's sports injuries and prehab, infants/general childhood concerns, or even physical and developmental disabilities, Kids Physio Group are committed to providing the highest quality physiotherapy care, delivered in a fun and engaging way for newborns up to 18 years old.
So what are some of the areas they can help with?

GENERAL CHILDHOOD CONCERNS
We all know, kids grow so fast! And sometimes, that can have an impact on a child's joints and muscles, which could potentially lead to injuries or conditions that are specific to childhood. The sooner the conditions are caught, the sooner they can start therapy and help make things better.
There's 3 key categories the physiotherapists use:
Pediatric Orthopedic Conditions - This includes things like toe walking, foot pain and arch development.
Growth Related Concerns - Some common concerns are growing pains, their posture, muscle and coordination imbalances.
Alignment - Ultimately how a child sits, walks and positions themselves can impact how their joins and skeleton will align. In-toeing, out-toeing, w-sitting, poor running patterns are all signs of alignment concerns.
CONCUSSIONS
The knowledge around concussions has expanded greatly in recent years and the seriousness around it has grown as well, and not just related to sports. Kids Physio Group is an official Complete Concussion Management clinic. They can perform baseline testing, before someone gets injured, so they have a target to know where the child was when they were fully healthy. This is important because how someone feels doesn't always line up with how the brain is recovering internally. If you suspect your child has had a concussion, please give them a call right away! They'll be able to help with the post-injury diagnosis and injury management, as well as provide rehabilitation for Post-Concussion Syndrome.
SPORTS INJURIES & PREHAB
Kids will be kids. They'll run, they'll jump, they'll fall and get back up. But one day they might push it too far and result in an injury. The beauty of prehabilitation "prehab" is that it's designed to condition the body and aims to prevent injuries before they occur. Balance, agility, coordination and core strengthening are a few areas the physiotherapists can help. Should your child make a wrong move and find themselves with an injury like the ones below, Kids Physio Group can help the injury heal properly, all while keeping the mood light hearted and fun for the kids.
Post-surgical conditions
Ligament / muscle sprains
Bone fractures / dislocations
Growth related injuries
Joint pain
PHYSICAL & DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES and NEURODIVERSITY
Kids Physio Group has therapists trained in a wide variety of conditions and syndromes. They like to focus on mobility, balance, strength, coordination, flexibility, and motor skills for children with neuromuscular, congenital and acquired disorders. Whatever the diagnosis may be, each treatment is tailored for their specific needs & goals. Some of the common conditions they see include:
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Cerebral Palsy
Down Syndrome
Muscular Dystrophy
Developmental Coordination Disorder
Global Developmental Delay
Rare genetic conditions and many more!
The clinic has various inclusive equipment to allow kids of all abilities to work towards their goals.
INFANTS & TODDLERS
Did you know physiotherapy is used for babies and toddlers too? Many of their physiotherapists are well versed in infant motor development and having training specifically for working with babies. All babies grow and reach milestones at different rates, so it can be challenging to know if your infant is on-track. Some of the milestones/conditions they can help with include:
Feeding
Torticollis ("wry-neck")
Head Shape Management
Tummy Time Challenges
Delayed Motor Milestones
Infants with Medical Concerns
PELVIC HEALTH
If your child has been experiencing some incontinence of their bowel and bladder, Kids Physio Group can help with their pediatric pelvic floor physiotherapy. It's a common issue among school age children, and they want to help your child feel comfortable and confident when they go out. Remember, they believe all physio should be fun, no matter what the issue may be so they have ways to encourage your children to participate and feel empowered without the fear of any leaks.
Owners Angus & Sydney are so excited to be back in the Okanagan. Angus joined the Kids Physio family in 2015 and completed his masters of Physiotherapy in Australia, since then it has been a dream to open up his own clinic in his hometown, Kelowna. Now he and Sydney get to raise their own daughter here, all while helping other kids reach their physical goals. If you have any questions on how your child(ren) might benefit from physiotherapy, I encourage you to reach out to Sydney or Angus to learn more. The atmosphere of their clinic, and the staff are so warm and welcoming, you'll wish physio could be that fun for every age group! Even if you're not looking for a kids physiotherapist right now, their social media has a wealth of knowledge, beneficial for every parent with kids.
